Workshop by Bangladesh Workers… Absurd?
May 14, 2010
Today, I took a bus to school as usual. But I saw one particular construction worker carrying loads of takeaway with him. This reminds me that when I was young, my parents always tell me to stay away from construction workers as they are bad sweaty, dangerous, and all the other words you can find to describe them. They always tell me that they kidnap, they rob and do all the bad things in the world. After I grew a little older, I understand that these are lies to make me stay away from construction sites as you never what might drop on you at the very next moment.
However, going through my secondary school years, and one year of (as most people will term) “wasted” time in Pioneer Junior College, I got to understand that we can learn from everyone around us. Be it mistakes or good things which they have done right.
Though being in a polytechnic , it seems less stressful, I still get tons of homework and assignments to complete everyday (just like what I’m doing now). Especially in group work, I find it hard when there is a component graded under “TEAMWORK”. I found that construction workers really practice teamwork and establish good communication. They work together to get things done even when everyone comes from different nationality, races, religion and even speaks different languages. But, at the end of the day, they still get the work done.
Perhaps someday, schools can bring students to construction site (praying that nothing falls on them) and learn some good communication and teamwork skills from these construction workers.
